Formerly known as ‘Living Longer Living Stronger’, Strength for Life is an individualised strength and balance exercise program designed to help individuals over the age of 50 to stay fit, get strong and improve their balance!
The program is delivered by specially trained accredited exercise professionals in a range of locations and settings across Western Australia.
Who Can Join Strength for Life?
The only requirement to be able to join Strength for Life is that you have to be at least 50 years old, that’s it!
Other exclusionary factors may exempt you from completing exercise within a group setting. These are based on mild, moderate, and hard contraindications to exercise which would place your health at risk by completing exercise. This is why GP medical clearance and an initial assessment by your accredited exercise professional are necessary before you participate in the Strength for Life program.
Who Runs Strength for Life Sessions?
Strength for Life is only run by specially trained accredited exercise professionals, which include Exercise Physiologists, Physiotherapists and Accredited Personal Trainers.
Strength for Life is broken up into Tier 1 and Tier 2 Classes. Tier 1 classes are run by Accredited Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists, they are designed for those who have chronic conditions and a complex medical history. Tier 2 classes are run by Accredited Exercise Professionals such as Personal Trainers and are intended for everyone and those with minimal health complications.
What Does a Typical Strength for Life Session Look Like?
The style of Strength for Life sessions varies across each location and setting. Some locations opt for circuit-style sessions, while other locations opt for more individualised sessions, designing a personalised gym program for the individual. Every program and Strength for Life Session is designed with your goals in mind, whether that be to manage and decrease pain, increase strength, or to better manage a chronic condition, every session will be directed towards helping you achieve your goal!
Additionally, every session is supervised by a specially trained accredited exercise professional, ensuring that all exercise is completed within a safe and welcoming environment.
What is the Cost of Strength for Life?
As Strength for Life is run across many different locations and settings, each facility can set its price for its sessions. However, Strength for Life has outlined that for Tier 1 Classes there is a minimum cost of $80 for an initial assessment, and $12-$15 per session for those with and without concession cards respectively.
Each of these sessions, both the initial assessment and the class sessions are claimable back on private health insurance depending on who you’re insured with and what your level of coverage is.
Why Should I Join Strength for Life?
A more important question may be, why shouldn’t you join Strength for Life? Not only will your supervising accredited exercise professional develop a tailored exercise program designed to meet your own specific goals, but you’ll also be able to do it in a safe and structured environment with like-minded people in a fun and friendly group setting! In addition to working towards your goals, Strength for Life will also help improve your balance, cardiovascular fitness, muscle strength and overall well-being!
How Do We Run Our Sessions at Fortitude Exercise Physiology?
As we are Accredited Exercise Physiologists we fall under the Tier 1 category, specialising in the prevention and management of chronic and complex health conditions. Our classes currently run on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 am – 12:30 pm and cost $80 for the initial assessment and either $12 or $15 for each session depending if you have a concession card or not, respectively. These sessions are claimable back with your private health insurer if you are insured.
We have found that the greatest results are achieved when individuals have their unique program to work towards their goals. Therefore, everyone that joins our program will have a personalised exercise program to suit their needs and goals. These exercises may incorporate gym machines, free weights, stretches, aerobic activity or a combination of the above-mentioned exercises.
